Reality TV: “Southern Charm” Stars To Watch

I love some good ole Bravo reality TV.  So when I was asked to participate in a twitter party & review Bravo’s ‘Southern Charm’ I was pumped!


For some reason the show hasn’t been on my radar so I did my homework and binged watch the entire season. Within the the first 5 minutes I couldn’t help but think they should rename the show to Southern Comfort…because there is so much drinking. Sprinkled in is a bit of Southern wisdom & food like BBQ’s, pig hunting, just to name a few.

For the uninitiated, that’s just part of the that “Southern Charm.” It takes a group of affluent, attractive people with in specific location, here it’s Charleston, SC, and you get to watch relationships form and fall apart.

With each episode of “Southern Charm” the plot thickens. It’s a must-watch for any reality TV junkie (with the ratings to back it up).

For us there are 2 standouts that we are excited to see in seasons to come and off-screen too.

How can you not like the flawed Thomas Ravenel? There is simply no wrong answer.

His latest scandal? Hooking up with Katheryn, a barely legal Southern belle. Next, political ambitions (note these must be positions that are ex-felon friendly).  


Thomas Ravenel says the birth of his new baby girl with girlfriend Kathryn Dennis won't derail his plans to run for the U.S. Senate later this year.

We adore the voice of reason, the  level-headed Cameran Eubanks. Fun fact: Cameran was a cast member on “The Real World” a few years ago. Can’t wait to see what this beauty does next.

Red Carpet Beauty: Lupita Nyong'o At The 2014 MTV Movie Awards (Update En Espanol)

At this point we’d create an event just to have Lupita strut her stuff on a red carpet…you know she would kill it.

Here is the Academy Award Winning actress slaying at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards…oh yes she's wearing Chanel Fall 2014 RTW. Yassss!

We’ll get back to that in a moment but let’s talk Lancôme first. Namely, the beauty inspiration for the event. 2014 MTV Movie AwardsWe love her hair style from celebrity stylist Larry Sims. Her makeup was fun and Celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose gave the recently appointed Lancôme ambassadress “sparkly, disco-inspired eyes” for tonight’s red carpet. Barose wanted to complement Nyong’o’s colorful dress with a silver metallic eye.

We got the scoop on the colors she’s rocking.

We love a simple retro look that looks just as appropriate on a red carpet as it would on a yacht or photo shoot. This is how Rihanna does a shirt dress…as a gown! Ok, ok maybe it’s a little more like a robe left open…but she pulls off this look as well as the model!

CBS Announces Stephen Colbert As The Next Host Of "THE LATE SHOW"

The CBS Television Network today announced that Stephen Colbert, the host, writer and executive producer of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning "The Colbert Report," will succeed David Letterman as the host of THE LATE SHOW, effective when Mr. Letterman retires from the broadcast.
The five-year agreement between CBS and Colbert was announced by Leslie Moonves, President and CEO, CBS Corporation, and Nina Tassler, Chairman of CBS Entertainment.
Letterman, the legendary, critically acclaimed host of the CBS late night series for 21 years, announced his retirement on his April 3 broadcast. Colbert's premiere date as host of THE LATE SHOW will be announced after Mr. Letterman determines a timetable for his final broadcasts in 2015.
Specific creative elements, as well as the producers and the location for the Colbert-hosted LATE SHOW, will be determined and announced at a later date.
"Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television," said Moonves. "David Letterman's legacy and accomplishments are an incredible source of pride for all of us here, and today's announcement speaks to our commitment of upholding what he established for CBS in late night."
"Stephen is a multi-talented and respected host, writer, producer, satirist and comedian who blazes a trail of thought-provoking conversation, humor and innovation with everything he touches," said Tassler. "He is a presence on every stage, with interests and notable accomplishments across a wide spectrum of entertainment, politics, publishing and music. We welcome Stephen to CBS with great pride and excitement, and look forward to introducing him to our network television viewers in late night."
"Simply being a guest on David Letterman's show has been a highlight of my career," said Colbert. "I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave's lead."
Adding, "I'm thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth."
Since its launch on Comedy Central in 2005, "The Colbert Report" has received widespread critical acclaim while earning two Peabody Awards and 27 Emmy nominations, including an Emmy win for Outstanding Variety Series (2013) and three Emmy wins for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program (2013, 2010, 2008). Prior to that, Colbert spent eight years as a correspondent on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" as an on-air personality and writer of news satire for the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series.
In addition, Colbert is an accomplished author, with two books, I AM AMERICA (and So Can You!) and AMERICA AGAIN: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't, appearing on the New York Times best-seller list.AMERICA AGAIN also won a Grammy Award for Spoken Word (2014).
In music, Colbert's original holiday musical special on Comedy Central, "A Colbert Christmas," won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album (2009) and Emmy nominations for Art Direction, Picture Editing and Original Music and Lyrics. In April 2011, Colbert starred as Harry in the New York Philharmonic presentation of Stephen Sondheim's "Company."
After graduating from Northwestern University, Colbert was a member of Chicago's acclaimed Second City improv troupe with Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello. The trio later created and starred in the CableAce-nominated sketch comedy series, "Exit 57," and created the cult-hit narrative series "Strangers with Candy," both for Comedy Central.

Red Carpet Beauty: Emily VanCamp At The Premiere Of Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Emily VanCamp Votre Vu Captain America The Winter Soldier Red CarpetCelebrity makeup artist Rosie Johnston is the artist behind this beauty look! For Emily’s look, Rosie took inspiration from her dress which was a short Monique Lhuillier number with long sleeves.  “It’s very sexy, but very demure and classic at the same time.”  Rosie and Emily wanted to do something that was sleek, modern, yet sophisticated.

The look for tonight really focused Emily’s eyes.  “We went for a not so traditional smokey eye paired with really nude lips.  To start, Rosie began by applying Votre Vu’s Champagne Kisses to Emily’s lips to prep them for the lipstick later on.  The lip balm is infused with Vitamin E and champagne grape seed oil so it intensely moisturizes the lips and creates a great base for lipstick.  Rosie kept Emily’s skin looking super fresh and clean using a combination of Kevyn Aucoin and Chanel foundations.  To add a subtle flush to her cheeks, Rosie used Votre Vu’s Vu-On Rouge in Bouquet Rose and applied it using a foundation brush on the apples of her cheeks and blending up a little.

To prep the eyes and make the colors pop, Rosie first applied Votre Vu’s Lingerie Pour Les Yeux in Light all over Emily’s lids.  Then she went in with the nude-bronze shade from the Palette Play in Copper and swept that all over the lid.  Focusing next on the eyeliner, Rosie took the Le Joli Crayon in Charbon and lined her eyes with it.  To smoke out the liner, Rosie then took the deep violet and black shades from the Palette Play in Violette and blended out the liner using a flat, wide eye shadow brush.  “The eye shadow palette is amazing; the colors are so gorgeous and really created the look we were going for.”  To finish off the eyes, Rosie applied lots of individual lashes and then three coats of Votre Vu’s Eiffel Power to give volume and length.

For her brows, using Arch de Triumphe in Warm and an angled brush, Rosie filled in Emily’s brows, combed them out, and then filled them in again, repeating this step 3 times for a “natural, yet defined look.”

“We always try to keep Emily’s look soft and sexy, but with a little bit of edge.”

Toyota 2014 Highlander Commercials to Air on Fox Sports Deportes During the First-Ever Spanish Language Super Bowl Broadcast

The Muppets gang and Toyota will take a ride into history this year, connecting with Latinos across the country for the upcoming Toyota Highlander launch and the Muppets’ all-new big-screen adventure “Muppets Most Wanted,” in theaters March 21, 2014.

The team will appear in two 30-second television commercials for the all-new 2014 Toyota Highlander that will debut on Fox Sports Deportes during the historic first Spanish-language broadcast of the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 2. In each of the spots, dancing, singing and fun-loving Muppets show that with room for up to eight human passengers, or over a dozen Muppets, the Toyota Highlander has plenty of room for everything—everything except boring.

“Toyota is thrilled to take part in a defining moment in U.S. sports history,” said Jack Hollis, Vice President of Toyota Division Marketing at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. “Connecting with Hispanic consumers has been a longstanding priority for Toyota.  Engaging them in-language, in-culture and with such iconic characters on such a grand stage is very exciting.”

Both commercials will debut and air twice during the second quarter of the game.

In addition to the television spots, Toyota will publish real-time Spanish-language content featuring the Muppets during the big game through Toyota's Latino-specific Vine, Twitter and Facebook properties. Hispanic influencers will also be part of the mix through their own channels to add an additional layer of real-time conversation.

Ricky’s Hosts The ‘Ru-Veal’ Party of “Rupaul’s Drag Race” Themed Window Displays

_MG_0024Logo TV partners with 14 Ricky’s NYC stores to create customized window displays “Ru-veiling” an individual contestant in each window from the new cast of the upcoming season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” premiering February 2014.  The creative includes a life-sized standee of the featured queen in an environment inspired by the key art from this season. 

_MG_0021New York City’s latest and greatest drag hopefuls including BIANCA DEL RIO, MILK and VIVACIOUS of the upcoming sixth season of LOGO TV’s hit series “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”  Additional past queens in attendance will include PANDORA BOXX (Season 2, Miss Congeniality,) BEBE ZAHARA BENET (Season 1,) VENUS D’LITE (Season 3) and JIGGLY CALIENTE (Season 4.)  Music will be provided by MIMI IMFURST (All Stars.)

These New York Queens are not in the running for Miss Congeniality (though Sandra Bullock would be a fun guest judge…seriously, who wouldn’t be a fun guest judge?!)

TV Beauty: Mad Men’s Lead Makeup Artist Lana Horochowski Dishes Set Secrets


What kind of brands do you use on the set of Mad Men?
KohGenDo a great Japenese line, NARS velvet matte lipsticks, Tom Ford, and MAC.

peggyWhat kind of research did you do to get inspired to create 1960’s looks?
We ordered so many fashion and vintage magazines. Like when we had to prepare looks from 1968 I ordered the entire year of 1968 Vogue magazines. I would observe the cosmetic advertisements in the magazines those are the most telling of how women were wearing makeup at that time.

Who’s your favorite character from Mad Men?

Where does Peggy’s cosmetic transformation come from?
Peggy comes from a religious family, she moved up in a man’s world really quickly. Peggy never learned how to put makeup on so she’s learning, that’s why her makeup always looks a bit off. Like when I saw an advertisement from the time era for this makeup palette with various different colors I thought Peggy would totally use all of these colors at once trying to look the best she can.

madmen joanHow long does it take to apply the makeup on set before shooting?
For the girls, they’re usually done in an hour and a half to two hours. The guys are fast, 45 minutes and they are ready.

What’s your favorite look from the 1950’s?
There’s nothing more perfect than a matte red lip with a full brow. So clean, simple, and timeless.

Mad Men (Season 5)Can you explain what goes behind Pete’s receding hairline?
Pete gets shaved every day, sometimes a couple times a day. Then we paint out the shadow that is still left on the head. His head gets shaved with an actual blade to get a really close shave. Whenever it’s time to shave Pete’s head we yell “SHAVING!” and everyone just clenches tight until we’re done. It takes around 40 minutes to get Pete’s shaved head perfect.

Lana Horochowski will be joining Look Good, Feel Better as a beauty expert volunteer. Lana is undergoing training to learn more about what cancer patients go through as symptoms and what the medical impact has on their bodies and physical appearances. Lana will be joining Look Good, Feel Better’s workshops to help cancer patients look and feel their best.

“The Real” Will Be Back For Fall 2014

Fox owned-and-operated stations (Fox Television Stations) will launch “The Real” in Fall 2014 following an incredibly successful test this past summer.  In addition, “The Real” will premiere in a second window on BET.The Real Gets Picked up

Domestic Television Distribution.  “’The Real’ brought viewers a unique combination of elements that were missing from daytime, a real, multi-cultural conversation about issues that women of all ages are talking about. Daytime viewers from across the nation tuned in everyday to share in the fun, authentic, energetic and wonderfully outrageous hour that is ‘The Real’ experience. We are very excited to be bring this distinctive unique series to stations for the Fall of 14.”

Seriously, we’re all looking for younger adults and this program delivered big time,” said Frank Cicha, Senior Vice President, Programming, Fox Television Stations. “This skew suggests daypart flexibility, which opens up lots of interesting scheduling opportunities, especially in our duopolies.
