Hair Obsessed: Molly Sims Goes Red!

Actress and model Molly Sims unveiled her dramatic hair color makeover – from sun-kissed blonde to vibrant red – to underscore the power of the new Nexxus Color Assure color care collection. The collection features a Pre-Wash Primer, our revolutionary first-ever pre-treatment, that shields hair against color fade before it's even a problem.

Molly Sims

Sims' color transformation was the vision of celebrity colorist Aura Friedman, who joins the brand as Nexxus Celebrity Color Expert to lend her expertise on color preservation and proper color care.

Best known as an iconic blonde beauty, Sims said she "has always wanted to go red" but worried about keeping the color vibrant. "I am obsessed with this color and I want to keep it looking this way!" says Sims.  She was inspired by the new Nexxus Color Assure products to experiment with her color because she is "confident that my color will last longer and my hair always will be camera-ready."

"We know women have an emotional connection with their colored hair - one that starts with elation which turns to frustration because of color fade and the inability to make that color last," said David Rubin, Vice President, Hair Care for Unilever U.S. "By developing Color Assure - with our breakthrough primer to help lock out water so colored hair stays vibrant twice as long - Nexxus makes it possible for women to love their hair color longer!"

Products in the Nexxus Color Assure collection are infused with a blend of clear, weightless oils, including almond, to lock in moisture, nourish hair and reduce breakage; coconut, to provide softness and elasticity; and argan oil, to improve shine and vibrancy. The color care system is sulfate free and provides two times longer color protection, compared with non-conditioning shampoos, when used over an eight-week period.

To celebrate that just-colored feeling, Nexxus is hosting a "Prime Color" contest** on Facebook beginning February 19, 2014 through April 1, 2014. Sims will kick off the contest by posting a selfie of her freshly colored hair, and encourage others to share their own just-colored selfies, using the hashtag #primecolor on Instagram and Twitter. Nexxus will be giving away a daily beauty bundle including the entire Color Assure system (Color Assure Vibrancy Retention Shampoo, Color Assure Vibrancy Retention Conditioner, Color Assure Glossing Tonic and the new Color Assure Pre-Wash Primer), as well as a ceramic hair straightener and curling wand.

For contest details and more information about Color Assure, visit the Nexxus Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/Nexxus.

The Color Assure collection includes: Color Assure Pre-Wash Primer, Color Assure Vibrancy Retention Shampoo. Color Assure Vibrancy Retention Conditioner, and Color Assure Glossing Tonic. The products are now available at mass retailers, select drugstores and supermarkets nationwide. Suggested retail prices are $9.99 - $17.99.

Nailed It: Vixens Rule The Runway At The Blondes Fall/Winter 2014 Show

Last night, at Milk Studios The Blondes set it off with their Fall/Winter 2014 Collection that was all about good girls gone bad aka The Vixen!
The beauty looks at The Blondes runway shows are always dramatic...these are looks for the stage, music videos or any momentous occasion really...they've worked with Beyonce, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj. This season I got an even closer look at one of the beauty elements that are so integral to The Blondes: The Nails by CND!

I went backstage right before the show and go the skinny about it. Professional nail care company CND unveiled 23 unique nail designs at The Blondes Fashion Show in New York City. The Blond girl this season is a true vixen – she knows the difference between right and wrong but chooses to err on the dark side.

The clothing and nails at the show expressed a modern twist on classic comic book villains, including Cat Woman, Poison Ivy and The Joker, and the results of this fashion collaboration truly took the art of nail design to an unprecedented level.
The total number of hours spent creating the 23 nail looks for the show: 850 hours!    “Our elite Education Ambassadors are hand selected for their talent and appreciation of art, from sculpture to color theory and beyond,” said CND Co-founder Jan Arnold. “Building upon this artistic foundation, our team created looks for The Blonds that tie in beautifully with our ‘Modern Folklore’ trend prediction for Fall 2014, lush with embellished, bespoke and handmade craftsmanship. We don’t paint nails backstage at Fashion Week – we transform them into mini-masterpieces.”

The nail designs showcased at The Blonds show reveal the pop culture element of CND’s Fall Fashion story for nails. The handmade works of art are sharp, strong, bold and intricate with extreme and pointed shapes.

CND’s artists handcrafted the nails and their dramatic embellishments with Retention+TM Liquid & Powder and BrisaTM Gel. Then, layers of high-shine color were applied using CND ShellacTM and VINYLUXTM. CND finalized the looks with unique embellishments, including jagged vintage jewels, Swarovski crystals, chains, pearls, leather, glitter, foil, velvet and more for a rich seductive finish. These ornate designs, created in the CND Design Lab, truly represent CND’s unique partnership with The Blonds and showcase their unrivaled artistry at New York Fashion Week.

“CND continues to amaze us with nails that raise the bar each season,” said The Blonds designers Phillipe and David Blond. “They bring so much passion and expertise to the table and the collaborative process is an inspiring experience. Each of our models walks down the runway showcasing two incredible looks – one on her body and one on her nails. You don’t see that at other shows.”

“As our exclusive designer partner this season in New York, we love that The Blonds truly appreciate our art form and allow us to push the artistic envelope even further as the years go by,” said Jan Arnold. “Their avant-garde aesthetic and creative energy provide the perfect canvas for our artistry. We look forward to making runway magic with them for a long time to come.”

@Tide Pods and Tracy Reese Bring Designer Machine-Washable Fashions to the Runway @MBFashionWeek

During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Tracy Reese debuted her first-ever completely machine-washable looks as a part of her fall 2014 collection, inspired by her partnership with Tide Pods and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Washable Fashion Initiative.

Understanding the growing demand for more accessible designer fashions that are easy to care for at home, Reese was motivated to work with Tide and incorporate machine-washable fabrics into her collection. For the first time, Tracy invited fans to influence the final designs that would walk the runway by re-pinning their favorite sketches using #WashableFashion on Tide’s Pinterest page.

Tide Pods and the CFDA launched the Washable Fashion Initiative with the goal of educating the fashion industry about the benefits and possibilities of creating more designer garments using machine-washable fabrics.

Last fall, Tracy was invited to an in-depth immersion at Procter & Gamble’s research and development facilities. While there, she learned about how the unsurpassed cleaning, brightening and consistent stain-fighting results of Tide Pods maintain the quality and integrity of clothing washed at home. With this, she had the confidence to create her first-ever machine washable looks using washable versions of fabrics including, cotton, acrylic, wool, polyamide, polyurethane, elastane, polyester, rayon, and spandex. Tracy knows that her customers will be able to truly care for the pieces at home with Tide Pods, keeping them in great condition for years to come.

“It was so much fun having the Tide fans help me select the designs for this collection. It was exciting to see them come to life at Fashion Week,” said Tracy Reese. “I know that my customers are making an investment when they buy designer garments. Tide Pods makes it easy for them to care for their clothing, without sacrificing the quality of the fabric. Having the right product on hand to care for your favorite designer pieces at home, like Tide Pods, allows you to keep those pieces looking great for years to come.”

“We were thrilled to see our fans embrace Tracy’s washable designs and the excitement they showed when choosing her final runway looks on Pinterest,” stated Karen Klei Schlosser, Associate Marketing Director, P&G North American Fabric Care. “Working with Tracy Reese has been great. She is a true believer in the idea of washable fashion and we can’t wait to see her washable pieces in stores!”

The Tide Pods-inspired washable looks will be available for purchase this fall, along with the rest of the Tracy Reese collection, at Tracy Reese boutiques and online at TracyReese.com. Those who purchase a washable piece from Tracy’s boutique in New York, or online via TracyReese.com, will also receive a free one-count sample of Tide Pods to use when caring for the garment at home. (Samples will be included with purchases shipped to the US and Canada only.)

RVCA Taps Model Ashley Smith For Signature Collection

RVCA ASHLEY SMITH

RVCA, founded in 2001 by PM Tenore, transcends the boundaries of traditional action sports apparel; the pulse of RVCA lives in the creative threads that run through and beyond skate and surf culture. For this collaboration, Ashley Smith--the newest RVCA Advocate--created a signature capsule collection to debut in conjunction with the brand's core Fall / Winter 2014 collection. The pieces are direct lines to Smith's personal style: a modern take on classic essentials, with a cool shred of nostalgic teen spirit.

RVCA's aesthetic highlights the balance of opposites, an idea that speaks to 23-year-old Smith, who is known for her wide-gapped smile and sexy silhouette. For this collection, Smith drew from her younger days wearing punk rock tees with hardcore colored hair, memories ingrained that blend now with living as a model in fast-paced Manhattan. Colorblocked letterman sweaters and baseball tees find an unexpected pairing with sleek leather shorts and jackets, while flowy hair scarves bring daisy-chain sweetness to an old-school tough backpack.

"I wanted to bring the RVCA girl a few key pieces that felt a little more playful, sexy even," Smith says. "Pairing the likes of my leather biker jacket, for instance, with any of the classic RVCA staples from the core women's collection is the perfect way to personify that effortless RVCA style in an updated and sexy way."

From PM Tenore, RVCA Founder:
"On a recent RVCA trip to Australia, Ashley was never hesitant to try something new, her outgoing and inclusive attitude seamlessly integrated her into the RVCA family. She was quick to try surfing for the first time with the team and learned from the ANP artists as they prepared for an exhibition. Ashley has since been become a regular fixture here at RVCA headquarters designing her signature RVCA collection—a collaboration that is reflective of her small-town upbringing and big-city living, representing the balance of opposites."

The campaign images, shot by Sandy Kim, embody the shared ideology between Smith and RVCA that life is all about the balance of opposites. Smith models her signature RVCA collection in a series of shots that represent dual nature of every young woman's personality. "No matter what you like or where you come from, whether you're feeling like a good girl or a bad girl, these pieces express who I am and I hope they help do the same for you!" - Ashley Smith

The Fall / Winter 2014 Ashley Smith x RVCA collection is the first in a series of six capsule collections designed by the model that will be available at select retailers and online at www.rvca.com.

Runway Hair Lust: Beautiful Byzantine-Themed Dolce & Gabbana Do’s

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a soft, romantic Sicilian up- do that looked truly fit for a queen - or at the very least, fit for models dressed in the beautiful Byzantine-themed Dolce & Gabbana looks at the designer's Fall 2013 show in Milan.
But know that if "monarch" comes to mind, Guido did think "Italian princess" when he created this 5dg4look - but he added that it wasn't supposed to make a perfectly coiffed, straight-from-the-hairdresser's impression. He was thinking of the kind of woman with inherently beautiful style, who does her hair herself. Some of the models also wore gold, jewel-covered crowns in the show, but in case you aren't already envious enough of the woman that inspired this style, we have to add that with a look like the one Guido created today, she looked like the epitome of royal and romantic, crown or no crown.
5dg5

"This elegant style is another variation of the Dolce & Gabbana woman this season, playing on that Sicilian idea of softness, romance, and a certain cinematic, womanly beauty. I took inspiration from the idea of an iconic woman with a kind of natural Italian allure- think the actress Sofia Loren or the women in the 1960 film la Dolce Vita. There's a natural ease to her beauty, she's sexy but in a conservative way. It's not at all a messy look, and it's all about the details - I wanted it to have shine, but to not at all look greasy - just a soft, glossy finish."

Get the look with our step-by-step guide…

Redken Products Used:
quick tease 15 backcombing finishing spray
shine flash 02 glistening mist
guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam

5dg1Guido, Redken Creative Consultant, works his magic backstage at Dolce & Gabbana.

5dg2Create the Look:

  • Apply guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam to damp hair from roots to ends and blow-dry with a round brush.
  • Add quick tease 15 backcombing finishing spray to the crown section by section, holding each section for a few seconds to let it dry before moving onto the next.
  • After the quick tease 15 has dried completely, backcomb hair with an oval boar bristle brush for light, airy volume throughout the crown.
  • Create a very small (1 inch) part that's slightly off center and then gently brush hair from front to back starting behind the 1- inch parted section in front, folding into a chignon flat against the head at the nape of the neck and securing with pins
  • Spray style with shine flash 02 glistening mist for a glossy finish.
