“American Hustle’s” Sizzling Dress Steps Off the Screen and Into Hollywood Costume Exhibition

AME100BENever before seen outside the movie studio, Rosalyn Rosenfield’s (Jennifer Lawrence) shimmering white dress and Irving Rosenfield’s (Christian Bale) velvet suit, both designed by Oscar®-nominated Michael Wilkinson for “American Hustle,” are set to open the internationalHollywood Costume exhibition at Phoenix Art Museum, March 26.

Curated by eminent costume designer and historian Dr. Deborah Nadoolman Landis, the show features more than 100 of Hollywood’s most iconic costumes including Dorothy’s (Judy Garland) blue-and-white gingham pinafore from “The Wizard of Oz,” Indiana Jones’ (Harrison Ford) leather jacket from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” and Marilyn Monroe’s billowing white dress from “The Seven Year Itch.” Much more than a display of costumes, the exhibit combines multimedia elements including interviews with actors, costume designers, and filmmakers, animation and clip montages, to fully explore the role that costume design plays in cinema storytelling and the contribution that costume designers make to every production.

AME100BFAnother new addition to the already expansive collection is Darth Vader’s (David Prowse) menacing black suit and cape from “Star Wars,” designed by John Mollo. The rarely seen costume appeared in the London debut of Hollywood Costume, but has not yet been seen as part of the exhibition in the United States. Darth Vader is paired in the show with “Ming the Merciless” (Charles Middleton) from the 1930’s “Flash Gordon” serials and together, they represent the two evil rulers of the universe.

Phoenix Art Museum is the final scheduled stop and one of only two U.S. museums to host the V&A exhibit. Once the show closes July 6, costumes will be returned to studio archives and an international array of private collectors, making it the last opportunity to see one of the largest collections of Hollywood costumes ever assembled. Five years in the making, Hollywood Costume is the greatest exhibition on the collaborative art of filmmaking ever mounted.

Hollywood Costume at Phoenix Art Museum is a ticketed event and is anticipated to sell out. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets in

Red Carpet Hair Obsession: Beyonce

Not only did Beyoncé kick off the show with one of the hottest performances of the evening, but her carefree wavy bob definitely had us drunk in love with her look for the rest of the night!

Pantene celebrity stylist Kim Kimble styled Bey for the evening, and shared with us the steps below so you too can achieve this style too!

Beyonce At The 56th Annual Grammy Awards

1. For a show-stopping wet, sexy look inspired by the 1920’s, start with clean, wet hair.

2. Next, work the Pantene Pro-V Curly No Crunch Curls Whip into hair from root to tip to define frizz-free curls. Then brush through with a paddle brush to create soft, piece-y waves, and scrunch hair to help keep its definition.

3. Spritz the Pantene Advanced+ Keratin Repair KeraGloss Oil Mist to add brilliant shine.

4. To go from sexy to modern ‘20s chic, dry hair with a diffuser. Point the diffuser toward your crown to keep hair smooth at the root and use underneath at the ends of hair to achieve volume.

5. Continue to scrunch hair until dry for added body. Use a 1/2 inch flat iron and wrap small pieces of hair around it to create additional soft waves, similar to a curling wand, to create a few additional waves.

6. Tame flyaways at the roots of hair by using the Pantene Pro-V Stylers Shaping Hairspray. It’s important this style looks messy and flawless, so a small amount of product at the crown is all you need.

7. Finish off the look with the Pantene Advanced+ Keratin Repair KeraGloss Oil Mist for shiny, effortless waves.

Fall Trends on the Red Carpet: The Low Pony

emmy ponytailI’m so tickled right now! Award show season is upon us – It’s the time of year when we start to see fall trends in full effect…on the red carpet!

At the Emmy Awards ceremony, many celebrities were seen donning a low-ponytail with their intricately detailed gowns – a trend set into motion by TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu last season at Jenny Packham’s Fall 2013 show.

Jenny Packham’s designs continued to thrive as a red carpet favorite amongst the a-list crowd last night, and the low pony look that Jeanie created for her Fall 2013 collection demonstrated how even the most feminine and intricately detailed gowns are complimented by this “glamorous yet modern hairstyle,” as Jeanie calls it.

ponytail red carpetHere’s how Jeanie Syfu recommends creating the look:

  1. Start by applying TRESemmé Platinum Strength Strengthening Heat Protect Spray to the ends of the hair and blow dry with a Mason Pearson brush for a straight finish

  2. Create a part down the center and then section hair in two parts, separating across the back of the head from ear to ear

  3. Gently tease the underneath section and along the horizontal line from ear to ear

  4. Loosely pull hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, letting hair fall out around the face

  5. Secure with an elastic and finish with a ribbon
