Celebrating National Rum Day With BACARDÍ: Music, Mixology & Rum!

This post is sponsored by Bacardi U.S.A., Inc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Today is National Rum Day, and I've teamed up with BACARDÍ to bring awareness to the spirit's history, versatility and cultural comeback.

EverSoPopular was invited to a night of fun, rum mixology and history with Bacardi in celebration of #NationalRumDay.

Fun fact: There is a coconut tree in front of every Bacardi distillery (thus the coconut drinks).

Now those thoughts of the #SoundOfRum are on our minds... by the way rum sounds like the breeze in the trees and the streams and the animals and the people and the music and the history of the island of Puerto Rico.

We learned that the perception of rum as appropriate only in tropical drinks has begun to shift. The spirit has quietly shed its beach-bum image and is reemerging as a premium, high-end spirit that is incredibly drinkable and complex. The category is increasing its momentum by capitalizing on what makes it different from other spirits – namely, its versatility and drinkability.

We learned so much from Juan, the Bacardi brand ambassador and our host of for the evening. Juan taught us how to make some amazing cocktails!

The evening was full of dancing, drinking and tasting different cocktails made with different Bacardi products.

Of course, the food was great too. There were Caribbean themed menu items including jerk chicken pizza and fresh spicy shrimp skewers.

We got to make the Bacardi refresco superior.

· 2 parts BACARDÍ Superior
· .75 parts ginger syrup
· 1 part lime juice
· .25 parts St-Germain
· 4 cilantro leaves
Simply shake all ingredients with sabor (and plenty of ice). Then double strain into a your glass filled with ice. Garnish with lime and cilantro.

This National Rum Day, BACARDÍ is asking us to remix some classics and to swap out a favorite bourbon or gin classic cocktail recipe for a rum alternative that will have us rethinking the spirit's versatility.

Try it for yourself! Please drink responsibly!!!

Update! On National Rum Day BACARDÍ invited a few lucky people to hang out with Luis Fonsi on this tricked out party bus in celebration of the big day! Fun music fact:  In July, "Despacito" became the world's most streamed song of all time with 4.6 billion streams! Cheers!
