Dear Diary: Today I Went Nude ... with My Lipstick, of Course

For centuries, women and men alike have succumbed to the irresistible allure of lipstick. A splash of color on a woman's lips has the proven power to turn heads, evoke memories and ignite emotions. In fact, according to a recent "Lipstick Diaries" survey* commissioned by L'Oreal Paris and conducted online by Harris Interactive, of nearly 2,300 men and women polled, 75 percent of lipstick-wearing women believe that lipstick improves their confidence. But it doesn't stop there, other lipstick secrets we uncovered include:
She Said ...
Do it in Public – 75 percent of women have no problem when fellow lipstick-wearing ladies pucker up to apply in public.
Be Selfish – Sorry guys, but 90 percent of lipstick-wearing women said that she's not wearing that sultry hue for you; it's for herself!
Stick to Your Guns – Ladies are sticking to their guns and choosing the colors that they want to wear (no matter what's on the social calendar). 75 percent of lipstick wearers choose the shade that looks best on them, regardless of whether it's for a date or girls' night out.
Give it All Up – 3 in every 10 lipstick wearers would give up a prized possession spanning from a morning coffee to a favorite pair of shoes to keep their favorite shade close at hand, always.

He Said ...
Leave Your Mark – Over 60 percent of men believe that smeared makeup on their face is a telltale sign of a steamy make-out session.
Ravish in Red – Nearly 70 percent of men associate women in red lipstick with positive sentiments like being sexy, confident and successful, while only 18 percent think it appears promiscuous.
Role Play – 30 percent of all men said they would rather wear lipstick for a day than gain 30 pounds.

"Lipstick has been heralded for centuries as the key to instantly transforming and defining a woman. A swipe of bright red can inspire confidence, while a rose or nude shade can help achieve that 'come-hither' look," says L'Oreal Paris Consulting Makeup Artist Collier Strong.
