Are you ready to cheer on the U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics team as they begin competing in Rio on August 7th? We are!
When going for the gold in Rio, your routines on and off the mat help contribute to the smoothest results. Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas knows the importance of taking care of yourself inside and out – whether it be kick-starting your day with exercise or indulging in your favorite snack. Gabby partnered with Gillette Venus to share some of her favorite life hacks to start your morning like an Olympian.
Amazing Legs Area Hop and a Squat Away
Gabby wakes up at 7 a.m. and starts each morning with a workout, but you don’t have to leave the comfort of your bedroom for gymnast-worthy legs.
Gabby’s Life Hack: Find some free space in your bedroom for the ultimate squats. Place your hands on your head and bend in to a deep squat. Add a hop on the way up as you bring yourself back to a standing position. Do three sets of 10-20 reps and then admire your hard work while shaving during your morning shower – Gabby loves the way the Venus Swirl moves like no other to catch tough to reach spots.
Know What Fuels You
Gabby’s morning rituals keep her fueled and focused throughout the day. In addition to her favorite hearty breakfast of oatmeal or organic cereal, Gabby recommends finding a signature drink to help start the morning with plenty of antioxidants.
Gabby’s Life Hack: Swap Your Cold Brew for A Cup of Tea. Try Gabby’s grandmother’s special recipe: Red berry tea with a splash of lemon, honey and apple cider vinegar.
For a Smooth Morning Routine, Practice Makes Perfect
Gabby is a morning person, but she still knows the importance of prep-work, especially when she has to make it out the door on time for practice. She always lays out her workout gear the night before, and creates a list of gym bag essentials she won’t leave the house without.
Gabby’s Life Hack: Gear up the night before and pack your bag with your all-around favorites. Gabby never leaves the house without tape, extra hair ties and clips, plenty of water, and of course, her favorite sunglasses.
Let Your Morning Set You Up for a Successful Day
Gabby’s morning routine helps lead the path to a healthy, productive, and yes – fun! – rest of the day, whether it’s prepping a delicious lunch or playing with her cat after she gets home from training.
Gabby’s Life Hack: Ditch the takeout for a delicious, protein-filled salad. Take a page from Gabby’s book and make her favorite lunchtime recipe for a fully-loaded salad: kale, spinach, red leaf lettuce, egg, avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted chicken and honey mustard dressing. For a DIY snack to boost your energy throughout the day, Gabby loves to melt dark chocolate and dip almonds in it – yum!
