Red Carpet Beauty: Danai Gurira at the 2016 TONY Awards

We loved seeing Danai Gurira at the TONY Awards last night. This was Gurira's first nomination for Best Play for Eclipsed, she was only female writer to be nominated in the category.

We asked makeup artist Kim Bower how she used IT Cosmetics to create the look for Gurira.

“My inspiration for Danai’s TONY Awards look was her jewelry. She is wearing an antique brooch from Fred Leighton in her hair; her skin lights up naturally like a jewel, and we wanted to play up the sapphire tones in the brooch with her eyes.

HOW-TO:

First, I prepped Danai’s skin with IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream to enhance her natural glow. On her cheeks, I usedCC+ Radiance Ombre Blush in Sugar Plum, blended sheerly on top of her cheekbones with Hello Light Anti-Aging Luminizing Crème Stick on top.

I layered Liner Love in Midnight Navy with the angled side of the Tightliner 10-in-1 Dual-Ended Brush, and used my finger to blend it in. Then, I popped a mixture of Devotion from the Naturally Pretty Vol.2 Romantics Palette and Hello Light Anti-Aging Luminizing Crème Stick on top to create a shimmery blue wash over Danai’s eyes that I then blended with Naturally Pretty Eyeshadow Trio in Pretty in Amber from her crease up. I lined the inside of Danai’s eyes and smudged with No-Tug Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Black, and applied Liner Love in Midnight Navy on top of it.

For Danai’s brows, I used Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil and blended it with Build a Brow in Dark Brown to give it shape. On her lashes, I used Tightline Mascara Primer and then followed with two coats of Superhero Mascara on the top and bottom.

Her lips are a rich berry in Vitality Lip Flush Butter Gloss in I Believe, with a touch of plum liner underneath to give it more of a purple hue.”
