2012 Summer Olympic Style by Nike

For the first time Nike will offer three distinct outfits to be worn on the medal stand by athletes from different sports. A contemporary approach to classic silhouettes, combined with soulful details, some of which are only visible to the athlete, finish the look as they celebrate their victory.
“The medal stand is a pinnacle moment for these athletes,” said Global Olympic Creative Director, Martin Lotti. “The world is watching and we want to make sure the athlete looks and feels good in celebration of their achievement.”

Sun Safety!!! Tips from Target and The Skin Cancer Foundation

The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) updated sunscreen regulations go into effect this summer, allowing consumers to make easier decisions about sun safety.

Target’s affordable, award-winning up & up Sport Spray SPF 30 Sunscreen ($5.24) and up & up Kids’ Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 ($6.99) adhere to the new guidelines and offers “broad spectrum” protection from both UVA and UVB rays. Updated packaging clearly states that the product is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, so consumers know exactly when it is time to reapply.

In support of Skin Cancer Awareness Month this May, Target is partnering with The Skin Cancer Foundation to better educate guests about taking preventative measures against skin cancer.

The new FDA regulations and our partnership with The Skin Cancer Foundation will help Target guests make more informed decisions about products through consistent messaging— like that found on our updated up & up sunscreen packaging,” says José Barra, senior vice president, health and beauty, Target. “Our team of highly trained pharmacists serves as an in-store resource for guests to provide advice and guidance on sun safety and protection."

The Skin Cancer Foundation reports that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime, so it is important to protect skin from the damaging rays of the sun by following these prevention tips:

  • Seek the shade, especially between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. when the sun’s rays are strongest.
  • Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher every day. For extended outdoor activity, use a water-resistant, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
·         Don’t be fooled by sunscreens with an SPF value over 50. To date, there is no evidence that products with SPF valueshigher than 50 provide significant additional protection compared to products with SPF values of 50.
  • Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to the entire body 30 minutes before going outside.
  • Cover up with clothing, including a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.

“Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers, but is also the easiest to cure if diagnosed and treated early,” says Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD, Senior Vice President of The Skin Cancer Foundation. “In addition to incorporating sun protection into your daily lifestyle, it’s important to see your doctor every year for a professional skin exam, and examine your skin head-to-toe every month using a step-by-step guide like the one on SkinCancer.org. This routine ten minute self-examination is a small investment in what could be a life-saving procedure.”

Midsummer Savings: What to Buy in July

Thanks to Independence Day, you can find great deals on pretty much everything as retailers clamour to grab your attention away from the barbeque. Still, if you prefer to keep it mellow this Wednesday and avoid the crowds, there's plenty of time for savings later this month.

Consider the following advice from  nationally-recognized consumer and money-saving expert, Andrea Woroch, who helps consumers live on less without radically changing their lifestyles. Enjoy great savings on everything from fruit to furniture.

1. Replace that couch.
Even Oprah agrees that July is the best time to buy furniture. Thanks to Independence Day and new styles arriving in August, sales floor associates are buzzing to upsell you on that leather recliner. Scout preferred styles before sale time and do your research on the cost so as not to be fooled by inflated prices.
2. Update your lingerie.
Thanks to the Victoria's Secret semi-annual sale, other lingerie retailers attempt to snatch up some of their customers by offering deals on intimates. Benefit from the retailer showdown with great deals, and be sure to check here for the latest online offers from America's favorite lingerie store.
3. Take in a show.
Tourists and uncivilized New Yorkers alike can usually find good deals on Broadway tickets in July, thanks to the opening of new shows in August. Though no one from the Upper East Side would be caught dead in the Theater District midsummer, the peons get the double advantage of cheap tickets and cordial company.
4. Channel your inner James Bond.
Listen up, gents: now's the time to replace that suit you've been wearing for the last ten years. July is a great time to save on lightweight monkeysuits because shops are making room for fall fashion. A well-fitting suit is always an investment, so check out these snarky-yet-savvy tips from Esquire for selecting the best look.
5. Make a fruit salad.
Summertime is one of the best times to enjoy a multitude of fresh produce, for which you otherwise pay a premium during the rest of the year. Take advantage of the warm weather and hit up your local farmers' market for berries, melons and crisp veggies.
6. Upgrade your dishwasher.
Sales on appliances abound during holidays like the Fourth of July, so now's the time to upgrade that failing dishwasher. In addition to marked-down prices, you can score additional savings with no-interest payment plans. Review offers from multiple stores and see if your preferred retailer will offer a price match.
7. Get out of town.
July represents one of the best times to travel to Las Vegas because it's scorching hot and even the locals would prefer to be elsewhere. Thank goodness for elaborate pools and over-air conditioned casinos. Check Kayak.com for airfare comparisons between popular airlines, and book your flight on a Tuesday afternoon for the best rate.

How to Save on Summer Beauty Essentials

Summer is officially here, and with it comes the desire to load up on beauty essentials for warm-weather destinations. While the longest day of the year may offer some additional time for shopping, you don't want to blow your budget on overpriced items.

We asked frugal fashionista and bargain shopper Kendal Perez, for some money savings tips.
Thankfully, you won't need a celebrity-sized bank account to feel glamorous this summer. Save on the following must-haves and put the extra money toward snowcones and seafood.

1. Swimwear
The summer isn't complete without the swimsuit, but even the barely-there two pieces can cost over $100. Mismatched bikinis are all the rage among celebrities, so consider buying just one piece to complement what you already own. For example, a recent trip to the river made my once yellow bikini bottoms black, so I purchased an orange version for less than $15 to add some color splash to my yellow-and-white striped top.

2. Sunscreen
Everyone knows not to leave the house without protection from the sun's harmful rays. However, not all sunscreen is created equal and you needn't splurge on name-brand lotion for the best protection. You can opt for generic or store-brand sunscreen as long as it has avobenzone in the ingredient list. This essential component protects against both UVB and UVA rays.

3. Sandals
I've been jonesing for a bright pair of espadrilles for the last two summers, and finally gifted myself with a pair of Bandolino coral cork wedges from DSW. Since I couldn't find them at my local store, I hit up FreeShipping.org to save $7.95 in shipping on these $50 beauties, and received a $5 coupon for my next purchase.

4. Accessories
Though you don't need much in the way of accessories when you're trolling the beach, a few key pieces can really heat up your look. Find fedoras or floppy hats for less at such accessory shops as Claire's or Charming Charlie. Designer cover-ups are great on the eye but killer to the budget, so opt for a simple white linen button-up or chiffon number from Ross or TJMaxx.

5. Mani-Pedis
After a season of opaque tights and ankle boots, you may be dying for a biweekly pedicure to keep your toes sparkling. However, with packages ranging from $30 to $60, its best to balance mani-pedi sessions with at-home pampering. Right now, you can score Sephora's top 10 best-selling OPI polishes for $36, providing you with several shades and color combos to keep you stylish all summer.

6. Hair Extensions
If you yearn for the trendy fishtail braid but are cursed with cropped locks, think twice before dropping a wad on professional extensions. In addition to being high-maintenance, extensions that are professionally "installed" can run upwards of $500. Take the low-cost route by purchasing clip extensions from Sally Beauty Supply for $130. You get the same effect without the expense, plus you can easily apply them yourself.

7. Self-Tanners
No summer physique is complete without that sun-kissed glow. However, it takes some trial and error to find the right lotion for your skin tone and lifestyle. Ultimately, there are a couple options universally liked by beauty experts. You can save $3.50 off the popular Clarins Self-Tanning Instant Gel at Ulta, or opt for Jergens Natural Glow lotion at less than $10 a bottle at most drugstores.

8. Sundresses
Like most girls, I would happily live in sundresses all summer long if my budget could manage it. In addition to offering the ultimate cover-up for swimwear, soft cotton and jersey-knit dresses are the best garment to slip into after a long day in the sun. Try Target and Kohl's for the latest in low-cost styles, or check out consignment shops for great deals on designer duds.

9. Fragrance
Nothing beats a light, citrusy scent during date night, but designer fragrances can put a serious damper on your budget. To avoid spending $80 on less than three ounces of product, I load up on my favorite body spray scents from Bath &Body Works during sale time. I scored three summer-inspired scents for under $20, saving a boatload for date night.

10. Bikini Waxes
Not everything about summer is sunshine and roses; sometimes, the practical is necessary and downright painful. Despite the fleeting sting associated with bikini waxes, the feeling doesn't have to extend to your bank account. Check out daily deal sites for heavy discounts on this summer beauty option, but be sure to read user reviews to ensure quality service.

Red Carpet Beauty: Emma Stone at the Los Angeles Premiere of TheAmazing Spider-Man

Emma Stone completed a whirlwind series of international film premieres of The Amazing Spider-Man in Los Angeles last night. Walking the red carpet in a beautiful white Chanel dress with a deep pink embroidered pattern, she wore a loose, textured, twisted bun created by her stylist Mara Roszak for Moroccanoil.

The Inspiration:

“Emma’s Chanel dress had a sleek shape with a skirt that belled out. Since the dress was so feminine and had such a really cool structure, I knew the hair couldn’t be too done. I felt it should play against the dress and look sleek in an effortless, textured way.”

Model Latina: South Beach Spolier Alert!!!

On last night's episode of MODEL LATINA: SOUTH BEACH the girls got hot and sexy with international superstar and Model Latina judge Carlos Ponce.
The girls were thrilled to have the opportunity to model with the gorgeous Carlos Ponce. After boarding a yacht, the girls had to portray sexiness while managing to keep their anxiety and giddiness to a minimum. Set aboard the yacht, the girls used beautiful South Beach to try and capture photographs that would impress the judges. Meanwhile, cattiness amongst the girls continued to rise as they became more and more irritated with the lack of elimination last week.

Unfortunately for Cindy and Maytee, the judges felt that their photographs lacked a connection with male model Carlos Ponce. Unable to escape elimination, after being in the bottom for a second time Maytee was send packing.

However, in a surprising twist, Cindy was sent packing as well in an emotional judge’s panel.

After failing to portray a sensual and appealing photograph Cindy and Maytee were sent home, making this another double elimination.

7 Ways to Save on Wedding Registry Gifts

Summer is wedding season and this year, no one knows that better than me. I'm in two weddings and attending four more, making my weekends all about dress fittings and bachelorette parties. In addition to traveling around the country -- Florida, California and New York -- I also need to budget for six wedding gifts.

Gift registries make this part of the process easy, but shipping costs and indecision often contribute to a stressful experience. Consider these seven ways to save on wedding gifts, six of which I'll definitely be using this season.

1. Buy a group gift with friends.
Most of my friends already have the small household items that comprise traditional registries. If this sounds familiar, consider going in on a pricey gift with friends. Not only will you be getting the couple something they really need, but you may end up spending less in the long run. Edivvy.com makes it easy to organize the group gift without the hassle of calling around and coordinating payment.

2. Shop discount retailers.
If your friends are registered for Cuisinart pans or Kitchenaid cooking utensils, find them for less at such discount retailers as Ross, Marshall's or HomeGoods. You can also find things like cookbooks, picture frames and bath essentials for a fraction of department store prices.

3. Look for coupons.
Macy's is the go-to registry for most brides, so I was pleased to find a coupon for $20 off $100 worth of registry items on CouponSherpa. Luckily, you don't need registry-specific coupons to save on your purchase, so search the Web before clicking "submit."

4. Frame the wedding invitation.
Brides and the occasional groom spend lots of time and money creating the wedding invitation, only to distribute them to others. Make it into a creative keepsake by framing it. You can even buy a double frame with space for the couple's favorite wedding portrait for an added touch.

5. DIY - literally.
Are you handy, artistic or gastronomic? Consider a gift you can give based on your own business or skills. Paint a painting for their new home, offer your makeup or hair artistry skills to the bride, or bake the wedding cake. Your friend will be grateful for both the thoughtful gift and for cutting down her expenses.

6. Use (or give) discount gift cards.
Gift cards are much appreciated by modern couples and are often found at the bottom of registries. Click here to avoid paying full price for these versatile gifts by comparing discounts on cards to retailers, restaurants and other establishments. If you'd still prefer purchasing a tangible gift from the registry, purchase a discount gift card for yourself to offset the cost.

7. Shop for daily deals.
If you know the person well enough, you can get away with using the registry as inspiration for the right gift at the right price. For example, one of my friends registered for a set of chef knives that I know won't last. That's why I was thrilled to find a great set of premium chef knives for 60-percent off at one of the daily deal sites I'm subscribed to. Check out Groupon, LivingSocial or Seize the Deal for daily offers.

The Nike US Track and Field uniforms for Summer 2012 London Olympics

This summer US Track & Field athletes will be able take advantage of groundbreaking performance innovation: Nike has continuously evolved its Project Swift apparel, with the goal of maximizing athlete velocity. Incorporating over 1,000 hours of wind tunnel testing and insights from some of the fastest athletes in the world, the new Nike Pro TurboSpeed collection is not only Nike’s swiftest track apparel to date, it is also the most sustainable.
Nike Global Olympic Creative Director Martin Lotti comments: “Our overriding design principle is superior lightweight performance, and we’ve created innovations that can help make the athlete faster. For the UST&F team, we’ve incorporated modern graphics and bold colors that reflect US national identity. Combined with the fact that every piece of apparel is made from recycled plastic bottles, it adds up to true innovation.”
Zoned Aerodynamics: Just as a golf ball’s dimples are designed to help it go farther and faster, NIKE uses a similar idea to help reduce the aerodynamic drag of the athlete. Using revolutionary Nike AeroSwift technology, patterns and surface architectures informed directly by wind tunnel data are strategically placed on key areas of the athlete’s form. The result offers the greatest aerodynamic drag reduction of any NIKE uniform to date.
Minimized Distraction: Promoting focus by eliminating distractions, this new generation of Project Swift employs the new technology Nike AeroSwift to keep the interior surface of Nike Pro TurboSpeed as smooth, even and uninterrupted as possible. By placing elastics and edge finishes on the outside of the garment and incorporating an innovative flat, smooth waistband, bulkiness and abrasions are virtually eliminated.
Nike Pro TurboSpeed: Nike’s fastest ever: Based on wind tunnel data, it is up to 0.023 seconds faster over 100m than Nike’s previous track uniform.
Environmental Sustainability: Reflecting the NIKE commitment to considered design, Nike Pro TurboSpeed merges sustainability and performance. Uniforms in the Nike Pro TurboSpeed collection use an average of 82% recycled polyester fabric and up to an average of 13 recycled plastic bottles.
Superior Lightweight Performance: Specific products have been developed for distance, sprint, and field events while strategic color blocking is used to visually capture movement. Specifically for women, NIKE has developed a new approach to modular support, creating specific solutions for the distance, sprint, and field athlete, each offering a different degree of support and adjustability, and integrating Dri-FIT moisture management and premium quality detailing throughout.

What to Get for Grandpa this Fathers Day

Grandpa is the one who says "yes" when Mom and Dad say "no." He's always eager to hear from you, whether you're babbling incoherent nonsense as a toddler or consulting him about marital advice as an adult. Ultimately, Grand Dad is your go-to guy for perspective and practical advice, so give him the recognition he deserves this Sunday with a thoughtful gift. Consider these nine unique ideas to make this Father's Day one your grandpa will always remember.

1. Photo Book Grandparents love updated photos of their growing families, but gifting portraits year after year can get boring for both parties. Amp up the photo offering with a themed photo book featuring a photographic chronology of your favorite memories with Grandpa, or a collection of your best family candids.

2. Premium Goods My grandpa was a big coffee drinker. When he visited he'd walk to his favorite coffee shop near my house almost every day. For him, a premium bag of coffee beans and a sturdy new mug would be the perfect gift. Consider what your grandpa enjoys doing, eating or reading, and look for the premium version to offer him on Father's Day.

3. Magazine Subscription Is Grandpa an avid angler, history buff or political aficionado? Whatever his "thing," there's a magazine or journal offering the latest news, trends and profiles to keep him up to date. You can often find deals this time of year from subscription aggregators like Magazines.com and even daily -deal sites. Check these resources first before going directly to the publication's website.

4. E-Reader If Grandpa continually has his nose in a book, consider gifting him with an e-reader. Not only will he get access to his favorite books, he can increase the type size on the screen for tired eyes, or opt for audio books for the ultimate relaxation. Deal site FreeShipping.org is advertising $20 off plus free shipping on the Barnes & Noble Nook when you use your Master Card.

5. Webcam/Skype The best gift of all is your company, and that may be hard to come by if your grandpa lives in another state. Think about purchasing a webcam and offering to install it the next time you're out, along with Skype so you can video call him between visits. This is a great way to stay connected and feel like you see him more often than a few times a year.

6. Smartphone and Tech Session Baby boomer grandparents are a savvy bunch, and they'll likely appreciate the latest smartphone to keep tabs on their grandchildren. Verizon Wireless now offers an $80 prepaid plan for smartphones with unlimited talk and text and 1GB of data. Since there's a lot to learn about these gadgets, set him up with a tech session from a store manager.

7. Movie Tickets There are lots of great movies coming out this summer, and your grandparents might enjoy a few movie nights on you. You can buy gift cards to specific movie theater companies or online ticket sellers like Fandango. Be sure he takes advantage of senior discounts to stretch the card's value and point him to this article from the Miami Herald on other ways to save at the movies.

8. Car Wash/Detailing My grandpa's car was always immaculate, but I know it was harder for him to keep it up as he got older. If this sounds familiar, gift your grandpa with a car wash and detailing package to keep his ride as pristine as he'd like. You can often find daily deals offering this service, so scour Groupon and LivingSocial for deals in his area.

9. Virtual Keyboard Grandpa is pretty tech savvy, but maybe he's been complaining to you about the miniscule size of his tablet or smartphone keyboard. Launch him into the future with the Cube Laser Virtual Keyboard, compatible with iPhones, iPads, smartphones and most laptops. This matchbox-size device projects a full-size keyboard onto any flat surface, offering the convenience of a real keyboard without requiring you to haul one around.
