How Rude Are You? Evaluate Your Mobile Manners

Texting or typing while driving. Sending emails while walking. Using mobile devices while on a honeymoon. These are among the top pet peeves cited by U.S. adults in a recent survey conducted by Ipsos and sponsored by Intel Corporation to uncover the current state of mobile etiquette in the United States.
p_0Nine out of ten American adults claim they have seen people misuse mobile technology, and 75 percent say mobile manners are becoming worse compared to just 1 year ago, according to the survey.

Did you know that one in five U.S. adults admits to checking their mobile technology device even before they get out of bed in the morning, as reported in a 2011 survey commissioned by Intel Corporation on the topic of mobile etiquette.

The study also found that nearly all U.S. adults (91 percent) have seen someone using their mobile technology device in an unusual place, with 1 of the most commonly noted locations being a public restroom (48 percent). This according to a 2011 survey commissioned by Intel Corporation on the topic of mobile etiquette.

As mobile etiquette guidelines continue to evolve, here are some tips by author and etiquette expert Anna Post of The Emily Post Institute:
  • Practice what you preach: If you don't like others' bad behavior, don't engage in it.
  • Be present: Give your full attention to those you are with, such as when in a meeting or on a date. No matter how well you think you multi-task, you'll make a better impression.
  • The small moments matter. Before making a call, texting or emailing in public, consider if your actions will impact others. If they will, reconsider, wait or move away first.
  • Talk with your family, friends and colleagues about ground rules for mobile device usage during personal time.
  • Some places should stay private: Don't use a mobile device while using a restroom.

Winning! Jimmy Fallon Remix The Clips: Charlie Sheen Edition

Questlove almost makes Charlie Sheen sound good.

NIKE DUNK X ?UESTLOVE

Once again turning to an icon of Nike’s design heritage, Nike Sportswear takes the Nike Dunk and puts it in the hands of one of the music industry’s most innovative creators of sound, ?uestlove. Releasing on March 4th, two Nike Dunks will hit the shelves as a pair of unlikely twins bearing a unique look that is arguably the first of its kind. One pair red and the other yellow, the Nike Dunk x ?uestlove is the product of an imagination that brings uncharacteristic embellishments to a classic. Inspired by mid 80’s era American television, ?uestlove draws from the favorite sitcoms of his youth and interprets their story lines through design.

Hinting to an episode that is forever etched in ?uestlove’s mind, a character is presented with an all too human conflict, impressing a girl with style, but the outcome goes horribly awry. The character pleads for an expensive shirt from his parents, but when he is denied, a sibling offers to make a replica that is in the end far from perfect. The Nike Dunk x ?uestlove is just that, one is perfect, and the other is, to say the least, a bit off kilter.
The red pair is fashioned to perfection using premium leather complete with an overlay that conceals the laces trimmed with white buttons. The yellow pair is the traditional Nike Dunk with a twist – the swoosh shape that is distinct to the Nike Blazer. The Nike Dunk x ?uestloves are then finished off with the emblem of its maker, the silhouette of ?uestlove himself.

“I always opt against taking the easy way out,” says ?uestlove, “I wanted to choose colors that were extremely hard to match with outfits with a simpler design that stand out as the topic of conversation.”

?uestlove surprises us by suddenly adding a third Nike Dunk x ?uestlove to the mix, this version colored in all black. When asked about the addition,?uestlove responds, “Dunks to me are the tuxedo of Nikes. Obviously an awesome basketball sneaker, but they can also fit almost any situation. If rocked right, you could even wear them with a suit, and the all black version is perfect for that.”

The Nike Dunk x ?uestlove by Nike Sportswear will be available at Nike Sportswear at 21 Mercer, New York, and select Nike Sportswear retailers nationwide.

Spring Training: Know Thy Feet

Trainer Ashley Borden Says to Get a Great Body, Get Off on the Right Foot

“98% of the clients I have ever worked with are astounded when I tell them that their feet have everything to do with why their body is shaped a certain way,” explains LA-based fitness expert Ashley Borden, who travels the country training clients like Natasha Bedingfield, Ryan Gosling and Taraji P Henson.
“Your feet are the foundation of your entire body, so my primary focus when clients begin with me is on foot placement, arch analysis, and proper support,” says Borden. “When you build a skyscraper, you need to have a strong foundation. Collapsed arches, for example, lead to internally rotated hips, which causes saddlebags.”
A few of Borden’s Meet Your Feet tips include:
KNOW YOUR ARCHES – is your foot pronated or supinated? Do you have a high arch or a collapsed arch? Go to a specialized shoe store where they watch you walk and evaluate your gait. Sometimes local drugstores even have a Dr. Scholl’s kiosk that can tell you whether or not you need arch supports and what kind.
SOCK IT TO ME – Yes, socks can affect your workout. Many socks today have wickable fabrics and built-in arch support. These socks also prevent blisters and sock slippage, which can allow for a longer more comfortable workout session.
THE RIGHT SHOES – Wearing the right shoe is critical. If you have wide feet and are trying to stuff them into a narrow shoe, your foot will feel suffocated. It’s essential that you have comfort and proper support for arch control – which helps with stability, performance and ankle, knee and back support.
THE MARATHON TIE Most shoes have eyelet holes at the very top of the shoe – which usually go un-laced. These holes are there to provide additional support for your ankles. A lot of times people try to tie their shoes too tight when they are really looking for ankle support.
“Your feet determine your body’s muscle firing patterns – when you don’t use them correctly, it can distort the kinetic chain of your muscles.”

How To Videos: Mila Kunis and Oscar-Winner Melissa Leo's Oscars Hair

Melissa Leo Oscars.jpgWant some tips on how to get red carpet hair? EverSoPopular has hair how-to videos featuring celeb stylist Creighton Bowman recreating Mila Kunis’ glam 30s finger waves and the soft updo he created on Oscar-winner Melissa Leo for last  night’s red carpet.

Mila Kunis HI RES.jpg

And Creighton’s breakdown on how he achieved Melissa’s look:

The initial idea for Melissa Leo’s Oscars hairstyle was to create something effortless and carefree àLa Dolce Vita, but the look also needed to be about the silhouette: I developed a style that would complement the dramatic collar of her dress and elongate the line of her body.

I started out by applying Leonor Greyl Lait Luminescence Bi-Phase Detangling Milk and Condition Naturelle Heat Protecting Styling Spray to Melissa’s towel-dried hair. I used Gel à La Kératine, an alcohol-free styling gel, on her hairline to hold all of the tiny, curly strands in place.

Then, I blow-dried her hair with a medium-sized round brush so it wouldn’t be completely straight: I wanted a little curl at the ends. One of the best things about doing a round-brush blow-dry is that it enables you to lock in shine even if you are creating a rough, modern texture.

After drying, I worked a few drops of Serum de Soie Sublimateur, a silicone-free anti-frizz serum, through Melissa’s hair; created a section from ear to ear across the back of her head; and pulled the section up into a high, tight ponytail. Then, I loosely incorporated the sides and top of the hair into the ponytail to achieve softness while maintaining tightness at the nape of her neck. It was very important to keep it tight in the back to avoid interfering with the collar of Melissa’s dress.

I wrapped the pieces into a high chignon and secured everything with Voluforme setting and styling spray. Before the red carpet, Melissa and I had a bet going about her hair: she said she would let me do an updo if I could achieve the whole look with four hairpins or less. I like to call it “The Four Hairpin Challenge.” I knew that I could definitely do that with Leonor Greyl products!

After a little backcombing at the crown of Melissa’s head, the final step was to tease out the pieces in the front. My method to create that sort of effortlessness is to pull everything back and let whatever falls out fall out. If you force strands out to frame the face, it looks too specific, but if you let them fall out naturally, it produces a very soft effect.
