Backstage New York Fashion Week 2011 with Kevin Ryan and Frank Rizzieri of RSession Tools

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2011 Kevin Ryan and Frank Rizzieri, top runway hairstylists and innovative creators of cult hair products under their RSession Tools line, invite you backstage for a peek into the hottest hair trends they created for New York Fall 2011 Fashion Week.

Preppy Hair Gone Edgy

February 11, 2011, Perry Ellis

Rizzieri fashioned “Connecticut boys with an edge” look for the Perry Ellis Fall 2011
collection. The male models’ hair was styled with volume at the roots and sprayed with
volumizing root boost to create lift throughout. The Rsession Tools’ Runway
Series PinPoint Straightening Iron was utilized during the styling process to
ensure that models’ hair was completely straight.

Nicole Miller Finished Hair HR

Rock n’ Roll Chic

February 11, 2011, Nicole Miller

Ryan & Rizzieri designed tough girl hair with a futuristic vibe for Nicole Miller’s
collection. Hair was parted in the middle, a volumizing spray was applied and then
locks were flat-ironed with the Rsession Tools’ Runway Series PinPoint
Straightening Iron. To achieve the perfect rocker feel, dry shampoo was sprayed
over the entire head, with a focus on the ends to add additional texture. The look was
completed with a shine spray at the crown to simulate a wet look at the roots.

RIC Richard Chai Love Men's 037Disheveled and Real

February 12, 2011, Richard Chai Love Men’s

Ryan & Rizzieri gave models a “groomed and then disheveled” appearance for the
Richard Chai Love Men’s show. Using Bumble & Bumble’s Surf Spray and Sumo
Tech liberally, they created a matte texture and then ensured that frizz around the
hairline was tamed with the Rsession Tools’ Root Control. The look was finished
off with an overall application of dry shampoo to make hair look rough and slept-in.

Kevorkfinished_hair HRLoose Waves

February 14, 2011, Kevork Kiledjian

Ryan and Rizzieri kept hair “cool but not glamorous” for Kevork Kiledjian’s first
NYFW runway show for his eponymous women’s line. Hair was parted in the
center and then blow-dried with the Rsession Tools’ Bamboo Collection
Round Styling Brushes. To add length and volume, Innophillia Clip-N-Go
Extensions from Ricky’s NYC were clipped in to the models’ hair. Next, a large
barreled curling iron was used to curl sections of hair, which were then
individually pinned into place to set. Just before the show, the clips were taken out
and hair was brushed out to reveal a fluffy texture and then sprayed with hairspray
to hold the style in place.

Downtown Lady

February 16, 2011, Milly by Michelle Smith

Ryan teamed up with Catwalk by TIGI and gave models a cool, loose 70’s vibe for
the Milly by Michelle Smith Fall 2011 show. Hair was parted in the middle and
Catwalk by TIGI Fast Fixx Style Prep and Your Highness Root Boost
were layered throughout the hair to protect and create volume and texture.

RS NYFW Fall Milly HRLarge round styling brushes from Rsession Tools’ Bamboo Brush Collection
were used to blow out hair and then sections were curled using a Hot Tools 2”
barreled curling iron from Ricky’s NYC and pinned up to set. Completing
the look was TIGI Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo, which was
sprayed on as hair was taken down and brushed out for additional texture, and
Catwalk by TIGI Sleek Mystique Look Lock Hairspray to hold the style.

The Black Mamba, starring Kobe Bryant, Kanye West, Bruce Willis and Danny Trejo, is a Nike Basketball production directed by Robert Rodriguez. In Rodriguez’s trademark style, the film showcases Kobe as he fights to protect the game of basketball against all who wish to destroy it — and him.

“We’re excited to bring a world-class athlete like Kobe Bryant together with one of the best directors of our time, Robert Rodriguez, to create a film worthy of the big screen,” said Davide Grasso, Nike’s VP of Global Brand Marketing. “Nike is proud of its long history in the sport and culture of basketball, and through the film we celebrate this heritage and pay tribute to one of the game’s best – Kobe Bryant.”

“The film was inspired by my on-court alter ego the Black Mamba,” said Nike athlete
Kobe Bryant. “The driving force of the Black Mamba is having the will to be fearless and relentless, while remaining confident and true to yourself, no matter what the obstacles. I work hard to embody these characteristics during every game.”

Simultaneous to the film’s global digital launch, The Black Mamba was shown at a Nike Basketball celebration held at the W Hollywood hotel to an exclusive mix of Nike’s world-class athletes, renowned artists and influencers including many of the film’s actors plus all stars LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Amare’ Stoudemire and Paul Pierce. The film’s launch was followed by a performance with Kanye West.

BTR: Big Time Beach Party on Nickelodeon tonight!

btr-russell-brand-large-margeIn the special one-hour preview of Big Time Rush, 16-year-old Kendall (Kendall Schmidt, AI, Gilmore Girls), is inadvertently discovered by eccentric record executive Gustavo Rocque (Stephen Glickman) during a nationwide casting call and must choose between staying home in Minneapolis with his friends and pursuing a singing career in Hollywood. Not seeing himself as a solo act, Kendall strikes a deal with the Hollywood image-maker and agrees to undergo “pop group 101” training in exchange for giving his best friends – James (James Maslow, iCarly), Logan (Logan Henderson) and Carlos (Carlos Pena, Ned’s DeClassified School Survival Guide) – the opportunity to be in a music group with him. The boys travel with Kendall’s mom (Challen Cates) and younger sister (Ciara Bravo) from the snowy Midwest to sunny Los Angeles, where they move into the Palm Woods, a swanky temporary housing development where entertainment companies house their budding new talent. But the boys soon learn that life in Hollywood is not all about hanging at the pool and attending late-night parties: they quickly realize they have a very short window to prove to themselves and their record label that they are serious about their new career choice.

Beauty from the Tents: Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B.

SHOW

Despite the fact that there were six different beauty and hair looks coming down the street-gang inspired L.A.M.B. runway, the one commonality that all seemed to share was that the bigger and fiercer, the better. Models were outfitted in looks categorized as: the Soldier Girl, Ragga Muffin Girl, London Girl, Buffalo Girl, Mod Girl and Glamour Girl.

NAILS

Celebrity nail technician Pattie Yankee and the Dashing Diva nail team worked backstage to create nail looks for models at L.A.M.B. show at the Theatre at Lincoln Center.

To create a cohesive nail look for ,all of the ‘gangs’ in Gwen Stefani’s collection Pattie used Dashing Diva’s Limo Service polish for an edgy take on a neutral polish. The creator of the Love Angel Music Baby line said black is back for polish for Fall/Winter 2011.

HAIR

Hair by Danilo spanned the gamut from bouffants tucked behind lady-like head scarves, dramatically side-swept bangs, oversized buns, theatrical extensions, and an array of headpieces.

MAKE-UP

The different beauty looks done by Charlotte Willer for Maybelline New York was as equally fierce with inky eyeliner, strong brows, pops of electric turquoise, thick cat eyes, and shimmery eye accents all toned down with a neutral lip.

Romantic Beauty Looks at Jenny Packham Fall 2011

Jenny Packham's feminine and fun autumn/winter 2011 collection included textured and delicate pieces, flowing gowns and beautiful metallic embroidery. The color palate featured nude, black and brown tones. The makeup and hair was very soft, romantic and nymph-like: Talia Shobrook for Temptu created frosted eyelids, warm, peachy cheeks and applied a soft coral color to the lips. Leonardo Mannetti of Community NYC for L'Oreal created long, flowing hair with soft waves, echoing Botticelli's Venus.
